Students planting the conservation landscape

Beginning to plant the woody plants on the slope
Working with staff from Montgomery County DEP Watershed Management Division, Rockville Environmental Services and Master Gardeners, RHS horticulture students planted the approved design the last week of May 2010.

Conservation Landscape Plan for RHS

This is the planting plan for the conservation landscape that was developed through the RainScapes for Schools program in the horticulture class. The design is intended to provide deeper root structures to capture runoff from the 2 acres of compacted ball field above the slope. This slope currently drains across a parking lot; this causes icing problems in the winter.
